De Zondag van de Barmhartigheid leidt recht naar het hart van Gods mysterie: dat Hij voor ons genade voor recht laat gelden en door het bloedig kruisoffer van zijn Zoon Jezus Christus de kosmische balans herstelt. Maar wie gelooft dit nog echt?

We zien een rijzend tij van quasi-katholicisme. Zozeer dat het katholieke geloof volgens sommigen een tegencultuur dreigt te worden.

God is een lieve opa

Bij quasi-katholieken is Gods barmhartigheid populair. Dat komt doordat dit quatholicisme er alleen maar de fijne helft van wil zien: God is een lieve opa die niet moeilijk doet, maar alles met de mantel der liefde bedekt.

Als dit een goddelijke deugd is, wil je die ook bij anderen zien. Daarom zijn quatholieken nergens zo op gebeten als op katholieken die kritisch blijven denken en de wereld analyseren vanuit een geïnformeerd katholiek geloof.

Bekrompen praat

Zo is het voor de quatholiek onbegrijpelijk dat een katholiek bedenkingen kan hebben bij het klakkeloos toelaten van vluchtelingen. Dat is toch niet barmhartig? Dat je politiek fatale fouten kunt maken die de ondergang van een samenleving inluiden, beschouwt de quatholiek als verkrampt apocalyptisch denken.

Dat de islam essentialistisch een problematische godsdienst is, vindt de quatholiek bekrompen praat. In zijn quatechismus komt zoiets als objectieve werkelijkheid sowieso niet voor.

Niet zuiver op de graat

Dat Viktor Orbán de werkelijkheid definieert als dat wat blijft, ook als we besluiten er niet meer in te geloven, is voor de quatholiek een bewijs te meer dat katholieken niet zuiver op de graat zijn.

Zij zijn een kerkelijke Taliban, die hij graag aanduidt als ‘groezelig’ of ‘onfris’ en als islamo- en homofoob wegzet.

Verlichte Elite

Daartegenover ziet het quatholicisme zichzelf als rein, als de Verlichte Elite die geroepen is Kerk en wereld bij elkaar te brengen. De wereld profiteert immers van de vooruitgang? Het gaat erom die ook de Kerk deelachtig te laten worden.

Gezinssynode

Het is niet moeilijk hierin de oplevende gnosis te herkennen. Zo ontpopten op de gezinssynode sommige kardinalen en bisschoppen zich als quardinalen en quisschoppen. Zij willen in het huwelijk een kattenluikje aanbrengen, een nooduitgang met herstartoptie.

Dat dit het echtelijk ja-woord ondermijnt, en de goddelijkheid verduistert van het huwelijk als een instelling die vanuit de schepping wordt geschraagd, zal hun worst wezen. Sommige quardinalen scheppen zelfs op dat het laatste conclaaf een door hen beheerst quonclaaf was.

Waakzaamheid

Homoseksualiteit herdefiniëren zij als alternatieve normaliteit, want taal is voor hen monumentenzorg. Als je de gevel maar intact laat, mag je daarachter best een air-conditioned appartementencomplex bouwen. De vorm is de façade waarachter de inhoud met zijn tijd meegaat.

Christus heeft ons beloofd dat Hij zijn Kerk nimmer een Querk zal laten worden. Maar zijn barmhartigheid ontslaat ons niet van waakzaamheid. Zodat Hij ons bij terugkomst niet in diepe slaap gedompeld vindt.

Divine Mercy Sunday leads us right to the heart of God’s mystery: that for us He allows his grace to triumph over justice, and that with the bloody sacrifice of His own Son, Jesus Christ, He restores the cosmic balance. But who still really believes this?

We see everywhere a rising tide of quasi-Catholicism. So much so, that some have come to say that there is a real threat that the Catholic Faith becomes a counterculture inside the Church.

For quasi-Catholics God’s mercy is popular. That’s because this quatholicism just wants to see the nice part: God is a loving grandfather, who does not want trouble for you, and covers everything with the cloak of charity.

If this one-sidedness really is a theological virtue, you want to see it in others as well. Therefore quatholics despise most of all Catholics who continue to think critically and analyze the world from an informed Catholic faith.

So for Quatholics it is incomprehensible that a Catholic can have reservations about the indiscriminate admission of refugees. That cannot be merciful, can it? That it is possible to make politically fatal decisions which may start the downfall of a society, Quatholics consider to be cramped apocalyptic thought.

That Islam is in a essentialist way a highly problematic religion, is for Quatholics just a petty way of thinking. In his Quatechism such thing as objective reality does not exist anyway.

Viktor Orbán however has defined reality as that which remains, even if we decide not to believe in it. For Quatholics this is all the more proof that Catholics are extremists: a Taliban, which he likes to refer to as “greasy” or “unclean” and which he dismisses as islamo- and homophobic.

In turn Quatholics see themselves as pure, as the Enlightened Elite called to bring Church and the world together again. The world, after all, has benefited from Progress? This benefit has to be extended to the Church as well.

It is not difficult here to recognize the resurgence of Gnosis. We have seen how some of the cardinals and bishops on the Synod for the Family already turned out to be quardinals and quischops. They want to construct a nice little cat flap in marriage, an emergency exit with a restart option.

That this means undermining the marital vows and obscuring marriage as an institution that is supported by Creation, is something they seem no to care about. Some quardinals even brag that the last conclave was in fact a quonclave, controlled by them.

They redefine homosexuality as an alternative normality, because language is for them like the preservation of a historical town view. If you only keep the facade intact, there is no problem if you build air-conditioned apartments behind it. The shape is the facade behind which the content is moving along with the times.

Christ has promised us that He will never allow His Church to become a total Quurch. But his compassion does not mean we do not have to be vigilant. May He not find us in deep sleep, when He returns.
